Let Brides to Make a Convertible Wedding Dress
For many women the most expensive sheath wedding dresses they'll ever own will be worn only once. Wedding dresses are made with such care and detail, yet they are enjoyed for only a few hours. If you are interested in making the most out of your Wedding Dress 2012, consider designing your own with one or more convertible features that will allow you to wear it again in a less formal environment, or even on your anniversary.
Add an extra 2 inches of length when cutting the fabric for the skirt portion of your dress according to your desired pattern. This will allow enough fabric for you to create a convertible hem.
Cut the skirt fabric horizontally according to where you'd like your convertible hem to fall. Tea length, knee length and even shorter are all possible. Fold fabric over itself 1/2 inch, then again another 1/2 inch, on both of the new edges you just created. Pin into place and sew.
Attach the new edges to each other. You can choose to use nylon fastening strips, buttons or ribbon. Attach them as required.
Sew the length of your train according to your desired pattern. Do not sew it to the body of the custom made wedding dresses.
Attach nylon fastening strips, buttons or ribbon along the edge of the train where your pattern calls for it to be sewn to the body of the dress.
Disguise the new seams with lace, appliques or other ornamentation.
Remove the bottom of the skirt and the train after your wedding. You can alter them to create matching accessories for the new version of your ball gown wedding dresses. Consider designing a shawl, stole or jacket.
